Tractor Fire Follow-Up

So been doing more web searching and phone calling. If the NH w/cab I had in my first message had working AC it might be sitting my barn by now. A little leary of the MF in that message mostly due to size (it's larger than I am looking for).

Really trying to not put any more than my deductible into this so price is limited to ~$22,000. Maybe a little less depending on tax and delivery charge.

Looking for some input on these now:
Another MF

John Deere 4105

Deere is a lot newer, hydro trans not for plowing, nice for loader.
MF is 19 years old, has set outside, paint weathered, non Ag tires, more hours.

No comparison with those two in my opinion. The JD is a mini, fine for small jobs. If it is those two, go with the MF. Far more capable machine.

For 10 acres, it would depend how much loader work and how heavy the loader would have to lift. I have 5 acres and the loader work I have is pretty minimal, but I wouldn't be without one. I just bought a new John Deere 5045 E which is 50 hp two wheel drive without loader and it is less than the used tractors you're looking at. True, would still have to buy a loader and load tires depending on what you have to lift or weight the three point. I know everyone says you need 4wd but they are another maintenance item, costly when they break and I don't think they are as nimble as a two wheel drive. On a used tractor, there typically a lot of surprises (just read some of the posts on this forum). Maybe by the time you fix all the surprise items, change fluids, and maybe new tires the total final cost would be close to a new tractor and loader.

Being my first new tractor, I find it really nice that there are no fluids to change, things to fix, and not one rusted bolt on it. Works for me but you may have more loader work than I do.

The JD is a mini. Sure it's rated at 45 HP, but that's with a 1.5L engine. Compared to the MF with only slightly more HP rating, but an engine that is over twice the size at 3.3L. The engine in the MF will run slower to develop the same HP, likely use less fuel and will last a lot longer. The MF is a true utility tractor. The JD is a mini, with a smaller frame, lighter weight and smaller engine. As stated earlier, there is no comparison between the two. The MF is a lot more tractor than the JD.

We have both a 2wd loader and one with MFWD. The 2WD sucks on wet ground or in deep snow. And loading in a repetitive job the snow will soon pack to ice and it spins all over the place. The MFWD will keep going and not be slipping all the time while loading. This would be for loading out hay in a shed the drive will pack to ice from that. Even if it has been plowed previous to loading. Might cost more to have the MFWD but well worth it and if you have never had or used one you have no idea of the difference.

The Ford 3600 that I am looking to replace was obviously only 2WD. I probably only wished I had 4WD 2-3 times over the 16+ years I owned it. Yes 2 were snow related and the 3rd was when I happened to come across a wet spot that I hadn't seen before or since. Had to get the neighbor to come over and give me a pull out. Was about the perfect size for what I need so looking for something similar in size. Had a 6' bucket and don't want to go any smaller on that side of things. So I would like to move into a 4WD if I can but it is kind of a wish list thing. Yes, don't mean to get into the mini tractors but my search criteria returns them and I might not recognize them at a glance.

Thanks for continuing to help me out. Found a couple of orange ones last night that have my interest too. One was a Kioti which I have heard a few bad things about but have an acquaintance that swears by his. Not sure how much he really uses it, but there is a reputable dealer nearby.

We used to run a Farmall H and 300 for years on our acreage property. Used them mainly for property upkeep, snow removal, driveway maintenance, some light loader work, and several acres of hobby farming. We finally upgraded to a JD 4710 open station, compact utility tractor similar to the 4105 you are looking at. The JD is super handy and fits our needs very well.
