Digging potatoes with 9N

The middle buster sure makes this job easy. I can open the row when the ground is hard and dry. The potatoes are cleaner and drier.

It does a nice job. Nice looking potatoes. What variety? Yukon Gold?

I dug mine with a regular cultivator sweep on my Super A. doesn't work as good as the middle-buster. Some got sliced. All told, it was a good year for potatoes here in Kansas.

They were red Pontiac and Kenabeck this year. After loosening the soil and picking up the potatoes I raked through it with the cub cultivators, That yielded another bushel. I was a good year for me too.

That looks very nice.
I have a middle buster like that, but I like to use my JD H with my homemade tater plow so I can see where the row is.
I usually plow mine again after picking them up the first time.
It is still too wet here to think about putting a tractor in the garden.

I made a flat shovel bit that bolts on to the middle buster frame. It scoops up the dirt and potatoes better I believe. I do go over the row 2-3 times to get them all. My TO-20.

Those look good. My spuds look like they all died. Guess I should dig them up and see if anything grew. I dont remember ever seeing any blossoms. First year I grew any and dont know what I'm doing.

Great visibility when cultivating.
One hand on the steering wheel and one on the hydraulic lever.
I have used the belt pulley many times pulling a cordwood saw and my huge syrup mill.

Had a homemade unit that worked like a middle buster but the blade was flater. After using that pick up what you found, Then take the spring tooth harrow and go over it and pick as many as first time and repeat untill no more taters show uo. Probly 4- times with the spring tooth harrow. But that was back in 50's or 60's.
