The house in question is a 1980 mobile home .From whht I see there is no asbestos.Pink fiberglass insulation.No'popcorn'cieling.Tin sideing, wood paneling inside. No tile or lenoleum on carpet. My 'gut' tells me no asbestos. The old house needs to be demolished so the new can be set in it's place.

Ya wondered what big deal was over. Ancient trailer house. The one I stay in is a 69 single wide with proably more dangerous black mold in it.

I've never seen asbestos in a mobile home due to weight. My 1956 8X45 had fiber glass insulation as did all the others I have or had. I have bits and pieces of at least 7 mobile homes on the place

Asbestos was used in ceiling tiles and other ceiling products as well as some mastics, backing papers, roofing, flooring tiles and many other products until banned in about the mid 80's.

I think you'll be alright being that new.

So many municipalities use asbestos as a means of leveraging money, they require testing on everything, up to the honesty of the ones doing the testing and how deep into the pockets of the local swamp creatures they are!

I was working with a local nonprofit group a few years ago, they had a building donated to them. Trying to do renovations, the city wanted an asbestos test done. The cost was above and beyond anything we were capable of acquiring.

So we worked around it, played by their rules (when they were looking). One was we couldn't drill any holes in the floor because there might be asbestos in the concrete! That's how ridiculous their understanding and desperation for money was!

There isn't any asbestos in a mobile home. They were built with materials that flex without damage and asbestos isn't one.

Delta,
In my county you will need to pay $50 for a permit to demolish it. That will also remove it from your property taxes.
If there was an issue with Asbestos, the county would tell you when you apply for permit.
Ask your building inspector.
A guy got permit to demolish, and he was told by inspector the lead paint on block is an issue and that block was treated like asbestos, special permit, special landfill.

Some interesting replies for sure, obviously your local rules will determine what direction you have to move in. Despite being banned in much of the world, the industry and use of the asbestos industry is alive and well in some places ..... link below tells you a LOT about what's happening currently with it ....

Just do not ask permission from anyone!!! Do what you need to do and be quiet about it. No good can come from posting things on a public forum unless you want the world to know.

Strip it for the tin to junk or save for future shed save frame for a light trailer. I would pull it off the spot set the new one and then disassemble as time offered. Might even use the old insulation on a new shed or old. Problem solved.

Can you donate it to the fire dept for a practice burn. that's what happened to the old house on my property. Stan

I would just have anyone doing the demo work wear a good mask and go ahead. The dust from anything is bad for you. The government has just overblown the dangers of asbestos for political reasons. They have perverted occupational over exposure to mean anyone goes near it will die.

(quoted from post at 08:09:52 07/26/21) There isn't any asbestos in a mobile home. They were built with materials that flex without damage and asbestos isn't one.

Asbestos was, and still is, in more things than you may realize, not just in old mobile homes, it may be in any home not remodeled since the early to mid 80's. Not all asbestos is in a rigid form, which is lees harmful than other types. It is the small bits of asbestos fiber that get into the air and cause problems. Asbestos fibers were mixed into many other materials, including ceiling tiles and flooring along with roofing materials, gaskets, high temp insulation, mastics, pads and blankets; and many more things until it was banned. In some cases companies/people were allowed to use up existing stock of finished product after the bans took effect removing asbestos from production (just like paint with lead in it). It is the small bits of asbestos fiber that get into the air and cause problems.
