John Deere 2010 Tractor with a loader or look for anothe

Looking for some input/thoughts on purchasing a tractor or modifying the one I have. I currently own a 1963 John Deere 2010. I bought it without doing
a lot of research and know it has one of the worst reputations as far as John Deere tractors go. I had a hydraulic issue about 7 years ago that some
members of this forum helped correct. (Clogged hydraulic filter screen starving the hydraulic pump of oil causing loss of hydraulics.)

Im looking for some thoughts on whether I should try and buy a JD 146 loader to install on my current John Deere 2010. Another option would be to
buy a JD 2640/2840/2940 tractor with a loader. The latter is more expensive, but Im not sure how involved installing a loader on the 2010 would be?
Id say Im mechanically inclined to do the work but not sure what struggles Im up against. Would any of the other newer models be a better option for
a loader/tractor combination? The price of loaders currently are about $3,000-$4,000 and then my time installing.

Basically, should I bother with the 2010? I still plan on purchasing another tractor that is in the 70-100 hp range or larger in the near future.

1010 and 2010 get abad wrap in my opinion . but in some cases are well founded ,in others not , hydraulic wise at least you are better off with newer unit,

Buy the newer/bigger tractor. retire the 2010 from active duty.Since you are already planning on a biger tractor. Buy your 70 to 100 with a quick attachable loader. Then it can be removed in less than 5 minutes. That way you wont be haveing it in the way when it is not needed. It doesnt need o be bounceing around, and the added front weight is a nusance. Like farming(plowing, disking, etc.Keep the 2010 for rakeing ,wagon pulling and other light duty jobs.If you only need a loader occationally, why carry it around all the time?I have a 'quick tach' loader on my SuperM. It is usually on during the winter. But when spring hits it comes off. But if ever need in the summer,it only takes 5 minutes to put it back on. Like last week. I need to load some stuff. It will come back off shortly.Takes less than 5 min either way.Undo the catches, unhook the hoses, back away.

Thank you and Ill make note of that. How about the 2640 or 2940? Or any other models that youd recommend looking into?

2X on a quick attach loader. It seems to more than double the usefulness of a tractor.

The 40 series in particular had problems with the low pressure oil lines inside the transmission case leaking . Also the use of the incorrect spec or contaminated oil along with ignored filters .those will cause all manner of $$$ grief to the wet church and wet clutch fibre Disks .
While some people will chirp . Often the cheapest tractor over the next 20 years is the new or low hour machine that you purchase today .
With a loader once you go to 4WD.you will wonder why anyone fools around with a 2WD loader tractor .

We've had a 2940 mfwd with a loader of several years with few problems. Change the filters and oil. Put a set of front tires on it a few years a go and water pump with hydraulic pump drive bushings at that time. About it.

Probably because you took the time , effort and $$$ to properly maintain it . There is a long line of tractor uses that dont
Service equipment until it fails to operate .

I have a 2010 gas which I use to spray and rake occasionally. It pulls and parks the loaded wagons since is has the muscle, good power steering and smaller than the 40s. I dont think I would want a loader on it. I have an IH 300U with a loader which constantly reminds me I need 4 wheel drive and a much bigger lift capacity, as it maxes out about 900 lbs. I vote for 4 wd.

Do you recommend a certain JD tractor? I was advised to stay away from tractors newer than the late 1980s do to wiring and not easy to work on
without going to the JD dealer. Anything is a step up for me from the 2010. I was hoping to do most of the maintenance myself. A nearby tractor
dealer has a 2955 with a loader for $19,000. I also see some 2950s for sale. Just doing my research in advance.
