Was driving one of those at Clemson Exp Station when the rear axle broke and the wheel fell off.
Not fun.
Rear axle is no bigger than an automobile axle.

Common problem with Gs. I broke mine while mowing with a Mott flail using a brake to turn. No noise, just stopped moving. The splines on the differential end twisted
off.

You were lucky that it did not break at the outer end like the one I was on.
