What brand of new rear tractor tires are 2nd best?

Both of my JD 4255 Continental rear radial tires(18.4X38) have large cracks on the inside of tires. These tires have been mounted tubeless since they were installed new. I'm hesitant to boot & install tubes. I don't do any plowing only rd baling with this tractor. The present tires are 20 yrs old & still had good tread depth showing.

I think Firestones are #1 choice but what brand comes in # 2 spot? I've been advised by local tire dealer that BKT tires are a decent 2nd choice over Firestone.
Thanks for any advice, Jim

I have a set of the Galaxy EarthPro 45 tires on a Ford 4000. Their about 3 years old or so. They are holding up really well under similar use bushhogging, boxblading, and a little plowing.

I like to do many things myself, but at 72 I have to rely on Tractor tire shop. I
would ask them what tires they carry or can order. They have tractors parked waiting
on tire repair.

I am a fan of Galaxy also.
Got one on a tractor that shows no wear after several years of use.
Gets used several times each week.
Will buy Galaxy next time I need tires on any of my tractors.

Bkt wear and hold up well, but they
don't weather well, if a machine that
is likely to not wear them I would go
with firestones, they weather best has
been my experience. Titan falls
somewhere in between the two I'm told
but haven't had any or seen many to
say first hand.

Firestones are a good tire about not
cracking, but they are expensive and the
tread wears off fast. If we need a good
2nd place tire here, we've been using BKT
for years with excellent results. They
wear longer than any other brands we've
tried. Samson, Galaxy, and American Farmer
would be at the very bottom of my list.
They split or eat the tubes up really
quick.

Get something that you can stand/like to look at for years, as you will hopefully get to look at them for quite a while. Some tires out there are just plain ugly, and if you don't like the
looks of them, that will wear on you, no matter what anyone says.

Michelins make Firestones look like the cheap option!

Besides, Michelins are garbage, overpiced garbage. I have a set of 13.6R38 Agribib radials on my Super H. They were nice when I put them on, but in the ensuing years they have cracked bigtime! Never been out in the sun except for one day at a tractor show.

Also not impressed with the Galaxy. The 756 has one Firestone Field & Road (can't get anymore) and a Galaxy. The Galaxy kinda looks like the Field & Road, except fewer lugs, but looks the same at 20'. That's why it was put on there. The Galaxy is newer than the Firestone but looks rotten. I would not buy another Galaxy myself.

The Firestone SATII's on the Maxxum have been on there since 1996. They're good tires but are showing a lot more tread wear than our tractors with much older tires on them.

If you want tires that wear like iron and don't weather, you can't beat GoodYear DynaTorques. As long as you don't need traction...

I like Harvest King as a second line tire, behind firestone. They look good, and wear and weather well as my tractors all have to sit
outside. But they are also what my local shop carries. They sell a lot of them.

the titans are in second place over firestone. bkt after that. there tread in the centre is to closed in. even my step son who who is manager
at fountain tire says so and they will crack up sooner. i took the titans. very reasonable price i got also.

The tread pattern of bkt with the heavy lugs in the middle is common in India where they are made, in India tractors are used like trucks and run on the road a lot so helps them wear better and grip on hard surfaces

I put a pair of Galaxies on once and within two years they were cracking in front of the bars.

If you're looking for cheaper, bkt is a
decent choice. I've got a couple around
in odd sizes that seem to hold up ok but
don't expect the wear from them that
Firestone would have. However that
doesn't sound like an issue to you. I've
also got one set of mitas radials that I
like but i suspect in a few more years
they'll crack like agribibs. Just price
around and see what you find. Someone
might have a sale on and need to move
something. I've got a couple more
Michelin's on order now to replace the
cracked ones i have....

Titans came on my haying tractor, bought new, 2007. Front tires had the little cracks around the leading edge of the lugs even on a
new tractor sitting on the lot. Today those little cracks are still there and not much bigger. Rears not as bad. I think Titan is low on
plasticizer and heavy on the sold rubber in the compound. Still have OEM tires on the tractor and lots of lug left....I seldom do
highway running however. Ran Firestones for years on another tractor. They had some cracking, not serious, because they sat in a
dealer's tire storage unit...an 18 wheeler trailer, all closed up, for several years before I bought them...at a reduced price. Have Kelly-
Springield on 2 tractors that I put on in 2000. Hardly any wear and no cracks of any kind.

I was notified no BKT's will be available until October. I can get Firestone SAT 23 degree or Alliance.

I have BKT on two different tractors. Very well pleased with performance and price. Would buy again and recommend.
