3 point lift arm snapped

I have a home-made 3 point hitch on my '41 Farmall H. I use the hitch with an IH 100 sickle bar mower. With this mower, the left hand lift arm bears against a roller mounted on the mower. This roller work a mechanism which lifts the sickle bar when the hitch is raised.

Anyway, when mowing yesterday, the left arm snapped clean in two right where this roller rubs against the lift arm. This spot is about 10 inches in from the end of the arm.

The lift arms are nothing special--typical aftermarket 9n style arms that I picked up somewhere at a good price.

Any thoughts on the best way forward? I can post pictures if that is helpful.

Thanks in advance,
Dave

Old: Thanks. I was wondering if the TSC style were too light duty for this application or if I just got a bad one. Dave

Could have been a bad one or maybe to light. You could always go with a cat 2 arm and then used a spacer to make it fit right and then you know you would have a heavy duty lift arm. I have a couple lift arms that the ball is both cat 1 and cat 2 you just spin it a half turn

The ones at the fleet and farm store are really weak these days.

If you can find used ones from a 600-900 series, they are much stronger. Of course the end ball might be worn out on a used one, but the arm is a lot stronger metal on the old original.

You cant really use a cat 2 arm, they usually are longer and will mess up your geometry and lift point.

(quoted from post at 08:34:04 07/12/21) Weld it back together. and get back to mowing. If you dont have the skills, take it to someone who does.

That's what I did.
Now, my neighbor, who was a pipeline welder, does my serious welding.

Thanks to all for the feedback. I had seen some earlier discussion here that made 3pt link welding sound like work done for NASA or a nuclear program. I ground it out to a 'V' and welded it up with my mediocre skills. I'm swapping sides so the welded one will be on the right and hopefully get less stress. I'll see how it does. Thanks, Dave

I would reinforce whichever one you are going to use on the left by welding some bar or rod stock to the top or bottom edge depending on which needs more.
