Sloppy Shear Bolt Hole

I posted last week on whether or not to replace the PTO shaft on my NH 273 baler. Ended up ordering a new shaft (off ebay) and all the other bushings to tighten up the flywheel, clutches, flywheel shear bolt hole, etc. My main problem was the constant snapping of shear bolts due to slop between the flywheel and the pictured link arm...

It looks like there isn't a replaceable bushing in the link arm. Should I bore out this hole and press in a hardened generic bushing or just run it? I already ordered a drill bushing that would work, just not sure if putting it in there would cause another issue.

A new flywheel bushing will solve the shearbolt problem. BTDT. Checking every so often that the bolt is tight too will help as well. With new bushings though, it should stay tight.
Only thing with the sloppy hole is sometimes the bolt can be a bit awkward, not much, to change as it can get deformed, but it's only a grade 2 bolt so it'll punch out easily.

to do that fix properly it should be drill out and have a bushing pressed in. wont be much at a machine shop. it looks like the shear bolts were never tightened or if the correct size was used, as that mating surface is all worn also from slopping around too, needs to be milled flat. shear bolts must be tight,so when it breaks you get a clean shear.

Luckily I have a mill and a press. I'll get a hardened bushing in there this weekend! Thanks guys I just needed someone to verify I was on the right track.

I'm going to add what I always preach about. Make sure you run baler up to speed. 540 rpms with new bushings and running baler up to speed you will bale thousands of bales and never shear a bolt.

Both pieces need to be together so you can drill both at the same time so they line up with each other. Take them where it can be drilled as they need to be in perfect allignment so the bushings when pressed in the shearbolt will go in easy any slop will just get worse and thats what you have now.
