knee high by the 4th

Guess the corn made it this year. Been dry here in nwwis, but not crop killing dry, but could use more water. first crop hay was short with older stands noticeably poorer. 2nd crop coming but not real thick. Have hauled a few loads to the local hay auction and been getting $ 4 to 5.50 a bale. selling horse quality rounds 4'x5.5' for $60 off the field. Our ground has a lot of low spots and usually have a lot of stunted or drownded out spots in the fields, but they all look green and lush over the whole fields. Nicest corn we've had in years. Wondering what I should be looking forward to. Maybe a hail storm or perhaps an early frost. Put my wagon pulling, crop checking 8n in the picture so it fitsm in tractor talk.

...And here I thought we weren't doing too bad, as the wife's corn patch is a hair over knee-high. Wow, you've got a great field! I hope you have no troubles bringing the crop in.

Nice looking corn field!

There is a guy not far from here who is always about 6 months behind everyone else. His crops usually sit in the field all winter and he harvests them in the spring--even soybeans!

Today we were going out for lunch and driving by all the fields of waist high corn. Then we came to his field--looked like it had just come up last week! Plants were about 3" high! Talk about a contrast!

Our corn is about waist high , here in South Central Ontario. We have a tremendous crop of hay, but the challenge is to harvest any. It rains too much. Cant string 3 sunny days together. Rain forecast today and every day for the next week. Rain is becoming a real drag

I've got corn from chest high to some along the edges and around trees that is only barely knee high. Is always that way here. Got some spots that are stunted due to water from the 8-9 inches in a few days here also. Not a bad looking corn crop. Beans on the other hand sure look bad with the weeds from not being able to spray when needed. Don't know if I can clean them up or not. Will still be hurt on yield from it though.

Here in southwest WI the corn is over my head. Even the corn planted after first crop hay is very close to knee high. We could use a good rain and the hay yeilds have been off as well. Early soybeans in 30 inch rows are canopied. Many farmers are planting their soybeans before their corn in my area. Tom

That's how it's been here in Michigan. It's the wettest drought I ever saw. Just little rains that make it hard to put up hay, but the pastures have just barely been hanging on. We had 5.4 inches of rain last weekend, but when we went on a tractor drive to and from the parade yesterday, I saw some corn curled on a few sandy spots. It was 90 degrees though and I'm pretty sure it was stress more than dry. I've got a little bit of water standing yet in one spot that I usually don't even get planted. The corn looks super in there, but that was curled late yesterday too. Stress from the heat and the standing water. Corn is over my head though for the most part.

Here in northwest central Ohio corn ranges from close to 3' to most in 4-5' range with some spots hitting close to 6'. Most of the groth has been in the last 2 weeks. Earlier did not think most would make the knee high by the fourth. Have not seen any good looking beans tho.

Very nice. I'm quite a ways southeast of you but if I can get shoulder high corn on the 4th of July I'm very happy. Twice in 25 years I've had it over my head and I'm 6' tall. When did you plant, what maturity and what brand?

There was a few years over the last 30 where the corn was over 6 feet tall and tasseling. Some years if late planted that maybe 15 inches tall. Then the rest somewhere in between the two extremes. Knee high by the fourth of July was a very common saying when I was a kid back during the 1970's. This year I would say a lot of it locally is not quite knee high but drive 10 miles away and it is over knee high. Things dried up for a few weeks after the corn went in.

First planting in central KY is six foot with small ears, April planting is four foot high and 1st may planting is two foot high. Getting cucumbers zucchini lettuce and tomato's

Its about a 91 day thunder seeds corn planted may 3rd. that's the company name. never heard of them till a neighbor started selling it.
