Radio Static

I have an old square box Automatic Radio that works and put it on the 1550. The 880 had a suppressor in the coil wire, so I took it off and put it in the coil wire on the 1550. The 1550 has an alternator and I get static on the radio. I can hear the radio ok, but there is always static. Is there anything I can add that will cut the static?? Thanks, Chris

Siper99,

You can put in a static condenser. Do a search I am sure they are still available,

Guido.

I feel your pain- EVERY TIME I take my Oliver to a tractor show, I also get a lot of static!

This, or a similar product, may help with the electronically sourced type...
static suppressor

O'Rielly's has them for $6, where do I hook it up??? Tractor has a one wire alternator of do I hook it to the coil???

siper99,

It goes at the alternator battery terminal, and mounted-grounded to the alternator.

It will probably come with instructions too,

Guido.

Years ago I had a car radio/speakers that had a static problem, an added condenser on the input wire cured it for awhile. Turning the lights on/off cured it again whenever the static came back.

Spiral wound suppression wires and resistor plugs. capacitor across the alternator brushes .
Sometimes relocating the radio a few inches will reduce static .
