Cub grill done! Looks great!

Took a lot of TLC and hammering here and there and a bit of welding but yes it did come out pretty good. Next I install the brush guard. Was going to do it today but the paint on part of it that I painted yesterday wasn't dry yet. To humid I guess
Thanks by the way

Well I may not be as old as you but I'm no spring chicken either. LOL. Made it from pictures and then making it fit as I thought it should. It is held on by the doglegs I made

Far from being factory. It is expanded steel and the flat bar is cut out of a piece of 2 inch wide flat stock. I cut the flat stock down to 3/4 inch wide each and then welded it to the expanded steel
Thank You

I've lost count of how many hours I have in this Cub so far. Started with stuck valves and locked up engine to getting them freed up and working. Had to get a carb for it since it didn't have a carb. Seat was frozen in place due to rust and that took a bit to free up. Had to replace belt on mower deck and then lost a both blades off of it and got lucky to find them both. Then making this grill took a good many hours of work. I wish I could get the gas tank clean enough to use but so far that is not going well.

Thanks

Clean it out the best you can and then get you that tank lining kit and line it. I have a friend that did that to his B model and has not had any problems out of it sir.

Old, There is no doubt in my mind that you can do what ever you want and do a great job. I have always been able to do my own work up until lately. Now I just say it is my old age and let someone else do it. Good Luck OLD.

I've soaked it with vinegar and maratic acid and tried washing it out with water etc. If I put gas in the gas turns black. It has what looks like a layer of tar in it

If the tank was part of the hood I would just replace it but since it is part of the hood that would be hard and costly to do. I've thought about trying to take it to a car wash but figure it would be a waste of time and $$

Yes I would say it is stronger by a lot. The bar stock is 1/16 inch I think and so is the expanded steel. Took a bit to shape but it did come out pretty good if I do say so my self.
Thanks

The grille looks great!

Have you tried some e-85 in the tank? They say that's supposed to be good at dissolving that crud. I read your earlier posts on the subject, but couldn't remember if you had tried that or not.
