Tire Balancing Bead Problems

Not to highjack the post about tire balancing beads, I started my own. What the heck are tire balancing beads? I have never heard of them before. This would explain the problem I am having with my new heavy utility trailer. Three times now I have been checking the air pressure in the tires a bead or something gets stuck in the valve and the air starts to leak out. I have to pull the valve and replace it and then re-air the tire. If I were to do that on the road I would have a flat. I am not impressed if there are indeed glass or ceramic beads in my tires that would cause this problem. I may take the trailer to a tire shop and have them all removed.

Tire beads are ceramic, lead or steel pellets that are supposed to go to the proper place when a tire rolls to balance it. I have run them an never had an issue with them in a valve. They should be too big to get in there. If you are getting things in a valve I doubt it is commercial tire beads.

They are supposed to install s special valve stem to prevent that. I put the in my front tires on my truck but I cant really say if they work or not.

You could have hijacked my post. I wouldn't care at all.

The beads I put in my tires were either ceramic or glass, not sure. They were pretty small. I've never had a problem in my valve stems though. Of course, I generally don't let air out of my tires. I'm more likely to have to add air. Over time all tires will gradually lose air pressure.

What I saw they used looked more like a coarse powder, and would go into a valve stem easily. It seemed rather pricey for the amount they put in and would cause trouble with the core being stuck so it would lose air at a faster rate than otherwise. It didn't bother if the stem was on top so the air going in could dislodge them and blow out the stem. This was on semi tires so the stem is kind of sideways. I do my own tire work so never bother with balancing nor other junk in tires.
I have heard that 3 golf balls will work like the beads. Don't know if it is just a wives tale or what.

It's common to find little balls of rubber rolling around inside of tires.

I assume it's the snow ball effect, a piece of something starts rolling and collecting rubber dust.

Never used or dealt with the balancing balls, but seems they would tend to flake off the inside of the tire to some extent.

I have put a 1/2 lb. No.6 lead shot. It turns to dust. But kinda works. But not as good as really balancing them

One has to wonder why tire shops spend tens of thousands of dollars on tire balancing machines when these magic beads will do the trick.
