First cutting finally done

Way late, but it's been a struggle here in southern Ohio getting hay baled.
Almost done raking yesterday around noon, got a 5 minute pouring rain. Wasn't supposed to. Only 1 little blob of rain on radar, and I was under it.
Went to tedd out the windrows around 2.
Checked at 5:30, it's hot enough it had dried out.
Got done a little after 8.
Hope it keeps raining, my hay yields are off 25%...cold snap, couldn't get fertilizer in a timely manner, etc etc etc.

Thats kinda how its been for me too. We get showers, and the odd good rain. Showers can come up most anytime it seems and five miles away nothing. But showers are just enough to keep the hay from being dry enough to keep. Everyday for the next week has showers forecasted

I've got 24 acres that's been on the ground for a week now, 20 more to cut. It didn't rain Sunday, hadn't rained by 2 o'clock yesterday, not much on the radar, so I went and raked 4 rounds. I figured out out pretty quick, that wasn't a good idea. It was kinda dry on top, but yellow and wet underneath. I check it at 4, still wet streaks on each side. At 5 we got another heavy rain, dumped .4. I'm going up on a few minutes with the rotary rake with the side gate off and try to sling it back out. I think my experiment with leaving it on the ground and mixing it with the second cutting is going to happen. Looks like more rain is on the way. 5.4 now since 1 o'clock last Thursday.

I will finish my last field this afternoon. 2 acres. I'm ready, hope to not see another hay field till August.Hopefully we will be moved into the new house by then.

I just got back. That stuff slung out there pretty good. I took the side gate off the rake, left it raised up a few notches and ran the Oliver 66 wide open in 5th gear.

Not that far as the crow flies, but gotta make a loop to get to a bridge.

I'm sure you do get most of the same weather.

Although I compare rainfall amounts with a friend that lives in Felicity, the differences can be surprising. He usually gets more...but then, old farmers have been known to fib :)
