Bumper crop

A bumper crop of mulberries has crashed half the tree Saturday night. This tree has given a feast each summer at this time to all sorts of wildlife including a vast array of birds, squirrels, raccoons, skunk, possum, fox, coyote, deer, turkeys and probably a few I have not seen.

I have a lot of mulberries and mine also had a bumper crop this year after having a complete crop failure last year! Last year was the only time I'd seen them fail. Because of the bumper crop this year I also had a limb break off on one tree, not as big as yours, but broke clean off.

I like to eat them and usually have some every morning when I'm out making the rounds. Last week I had a neighbor bring several of her grandchildren over and I took them for a ride around the hay field in trailer and then parked it under a mulberry tree at the end. There were a lot of purple lips and smeared faces after a few minutes.

We have a very large old mulberry in the yard, about four feet at the base. It never mulls any berries. I found two dehydrated berries on it years ago but only that one
time.

I love them right off the tree as fast as I can stuff them in. If the pie crust is made and the oven hot, they will stay sweet long enough to make a
pie if picked culled a little and put in the crust (with the other components) after even 1/2 hour they loose both taste, and sweetness. Jim
