Mystery solved

When I was finishing baling a field last week with my 855 NH, there was a clanging banging noise when I closed the tailgate. Couldn't see anything wrong, last 6 bales sometimes would do it, sometimes not.

Prepping the baler yesterday, opened and closed the gate several times, no banging, said ok, whatever.

Went to bale yesterday, bang clang, thought I'd check the adjustment on the chains, even though I'd done it this spring . Opened the tailgate and I find this hitch pin laying on the ground behind the baler.

Only place I can figure it was hidden is behind the idler shaft on the tailgate. Had to have picked it up a week ago.

No more bang/clang.Always something

The first time I started my Gehl this year it was clanging too. I started and stopped it a few times, same thing. Next time it wouldn't turn at all. I opened it up and there was a rock stuck between the bottom rolls. I baled corn stalks with it last fall. Must have picked it up then.

. I too heard a clattering banging sound while out baling hay Thursday evening. It would stop when I stopped to tie and ejected a bale, but once going forward, the banging and clatter started again So I had to stop and investigate, safety chain from baler to tractor had come unhooked, and was just long enough to tickle the times on the pickup.

The worst I ever had was when one got picked up and dropped down in to the rotor in that New Idea Uni sheller. It didn't seem to matter how I turned the rotor or twisted the rock, the geometry didn't work. It was a miserable place to lean over and reach in to too. Took half a day to get it out. If I'd have had a air chisel back then, I'd have been trying that.
