Pressure washer not making pressure

Its a 20 year old with a belt driven cat style pump , I connected the feeder hose directly to to intake hose to force water into the pump but as of now it wont create any pressure . I took manifold plug out and checked relief valve and was not stuck so Im looking for ideas

Cat is a good pump. Did it just start doing this, or is this the first run of the season? Preliminary guess, something stuck in the unloader preventing it from building pressure, inlet screen plugged, Or frost damage over the winter , weak/damaged valve springs.

Its been sitting forever almost 10 years when I first started it seemed like it worked but it plugged the tip and then I flushed out the lines . Its been inside and its not froze trying to get it working to sell it as I bought one already to replace it . Its a Northern Tool unit which only reason I got a new one was hot water system quit working , well guess what that part works today

It will never work right until you get that rust out of the wand. Every time the rust pieces cover up the orifice, the line pressure goes up and the unloaded thinks you let go of the trigger, and unloads. If its working sporadically its because the rust doesnt actually get jammed in the orifice, and with the pressure off it can fall away from the orifice and the unloader will make pressure again. So far, I dont think there is anything wrong with the pump.

I flushed the lines out and took most of the valve caps off and cleaned them out had rust pieces in them too

I had a similar problem with mine and wound up buying a new wand as I could NOT get all the corrosion and flakes out of the old wand.

It would work anywhere from a few seconds to a couple of minutes before another piece would flake off and block the nozzle.

I bought a steam pressure washer at an auction that had some rust flakes that would come out once in a while so I purchased a filter to go at the end of the wand ahead of the tip.
so far the screen has been fairly clean but i feel better knowing i am not sandblasting my paint as i wash.
