First Car Show In Two Years

I know its not tractor related and probably some are tired of seeing this old Mercury again and again. But last weekend's outing was one off my bucket list when
I drove the 52 Merc to the Cupar car show. I was not sure I'd try a trip that far in the old car but my nephew came along and drove the Chevy II as a support
vehicle. No worries as the old flathead ran cool and comfortable right up to highway speeds in a rare run on pavement. Pretty good turnout of well over 50 cars
for a small town. I managed to get a few photos and some video in spite of too much visiting and talking. We stopped for a photo shoot beside one of the last
local wooden elevators.

That's a cool old Mercury but man, that cracked and stone chipped windshield and side window would drive me nuts. I'd have to replace them to be happy driving it.

I see those healy modified and just walk on past without ever trying to see what it was orignally. And same with the muscle cars.

I like your mirror ornament. Haven't seen one of those since the early '60s. I remember Esso used to give them out to put on your gas cap to show you 'put a tiger in your tank'. I remember Gulf also came out with a gimmick like that with a couple of plastic horse shoes that would stick to the trunk lid showing that you got that extra 'kick' from Gulf 'no-knocks'. I thought it was stupid but my father thought it was 'cute' until later when it ruined his paint.

(quoted from post at 03:18:12 06/26/21) Didya get a chance to push the OVERDRIVE button in?
No overdrive on this one, its a Mercomatic. Yes, that stone chipped and cracked windshield is not great but I can't go anywhere without crossing 4 miles of gravel road before I get to pavement. With new glass I'd be scared to ever take it out for a drive.

I don't remember the horseshoes but Gulf had a few collectibles back in the sixties. One was "coins of the world". Another was scratch and win cards with a different antique car on each one. Minerals of the world. I think I still have most of them saved from when my dad would buy gas at the local Gulf station. Of course I had to have the Esso tiger tail on display.

Your reference to Gulf Oil brings back memories. They had a magazine. There was a childrens page in there. Each month when it came , my Mother read it to me. Later I read it myself. I got excited when I saw that Gulf logo as I fetched the mail. That was in the 1960s. Did you get the magazine Roosty ?

I don't recall that one from Gulf. I don't think the name ever appeared here til it took over BA because the station that used to sell BA fuel and oil here in town changed name to Gulf.
Only magazine I recall much of is the Imperial Oil Review from the late 1960s. I do have some really old ones from the early fifties I'll have to check
