NH 1280 baler

A day or so ago, someone aske to see a pic of my NH 1280 baler. It is basicly a 280 baler made into self-propelled. It's a baleing machine!!!! If it misses a bale, I did something wrong.
It was re-powered with a A/C B power unit with a ,main clutch.. They did a very good job of putting in the different engine. That's all well and good except the motor is hand crank!! Usually, I get someone to pull start it. It starts pretty easy. Only issue I have with it is it seems to vapor lock. I may have to rig up a small electric fuel pump and see if that helps. Most of the time, if I can keep the engine temp below 170 and the radiator screen clean, it does OK. So, I generally bale late in the evening. I have so much to bale you know....about 15 acres between my neighbor and me!!! We sell it as horse hay. We have 2-3 good customers, so we usually don't have any trouble getting rid of the hay. So far we've got about 100 60 lb. or so bales, and I have about 5 A. left to cut. Oh, and why is the knotter cover open?? I like to watch the knotter work!! I use a 9 ft. NH 460 Haybine, and the hay is thin enough that I double or triple the windrows. I use an old Deere side delivery rake Dad bought at an auction I don't know how many years ago!! Still works great for me!!

We had a neighbor that had one like that with a bale thrower. I remember how black the operator got when baling clover hay as you set right in all the dirt. Tom

Nothing wrong with leaving the knotter cover open. Makes for less chaff buildup in that area.

The knotter cover has never been down on our 316 pull type since we've had it.
