IH 350 utility

I have had this tractor for years now and when I am working with it in after about a hr the gas in the tank starts to boil to the point it starts to vapor lock I think. For it will start to run ruff
and I loosened the cap and let the pressure out it run ok
And yes there is a vent hole on the gas cap and yes there is a stream of pressure coming out of it.There have been times when I have loosened the gas cap and almost blew off like a radiator cap. I feel like this should not be normal. It has been like this since I owned for about 20 years

the gas cap should have 2 holes to be vented right, not one hole. you can get a free correct gas cap by contacting https://www.ihgascap.com/

Truth! they are a poor design with the tank so close to,and above the engine. Using aluminum foil based insulation behind the engine that blocks off the heat to the tank is a 50% solution and reduces the heat transfer to the fuel. Todays fuel is controlled as to boiling point, but winter fuel is very easily boiled. I own a 350 and have had it do that. Mine has the foil. Don't use plastic based reflective stuff, it needs to not melt. Jim

Years ago I read someplace where someone made a pusher fan blade to push the heat from radiator out instead of pulling it back into the gas tank.

Anyone know anything about pusher fan blades?

Also a good idea. the easiest is to pull the fan off and use an electric fan. pulling from the front. 12v also available or used from auto yard. Jim
Example.

That is interesting- I have a 300u, basically the same tractor, and I have used it since me and it were both young. I have worked it pretty hard in hot weather and it never has boiled the fuel, even when I let the radiator get partly blocked. It still has the original gas cap which has a ding in it from a bush hog blade.
I do remember having our 8n ford boiling the fuel, after plowing along a river bottom on a very hot day back when I was about 10-12yrs old. That gas tank sets directly above the engine. Mark.

Older Cat dozers had a fan that was reversible- you just flipped the blades with a wrench, I believe. They blew forward normally-reverse for cold weather to warm the operator.
International 3088s and 5088s (and others in that series I guess) were designed to suck the heat forward thru the radiator. The fan blade shaft goes thru the center of the radiator and blows forward. The shrouding is designed with a screen in the top of the hood for inlet air. Cooler for the operator. Pretty neat design idea- just harder to replace the water pump or radiator! Mark.

The only way to make a fan push rather than pull is to rotate it the opposite way. Example: a piece of all thread rod with right hand threads has right hand threads from both ends. Jim
