ECHO Chain saw won't rev up

Neighbors ECHO 87G1, had bad primer bulb. Put in new universal kit one form TSC. Can get to run, but start it at idle, won't rev up. Start it in high, it will run. Has good fuel and air filters.
Any one had similar issue with chainsaw?

Yes common problem, several possibilities...

It's usually fuel, too lean, but it can be a plug or weak spark. Try a new plug just to say you did, check the spark before putting it in.

The lines from the tank to the carb, have they been replaced? Common for the lines to deteriorate and break off inside the tank.

The carb could be gummed inside if it has been sitting. You might get lucky and get it to run by backing out the high adjustment screw. If it can be coaxed to run by partially choking, pretty good sign it's too lean. The metering diaphragm (the one over the needle valve) gets hard with age, it needs to be soft and pliable.

If the engine will start and stay running but not rev up, just makes a labored effort to keep running, check the spark screen inside the muffler.

You may need to reset the low and high speed adjustments with a small screw driver. Turn the high speed screw adjustment at wide open throttle. But set the low end first to see if it will smooth out and idle.

I have been around chain saws since 1958, and used them since 1963, and i have never seen a plugged muffler. But, I always use good oil and not too much. Maybe spark arrestors weren't required in MN, it is rarely dry enough to start a fire, until this year!

My first thought is that you disturbed some debris changing out the primer, which is now lodged in the carb, probably near the high-speed jet. If the fixes that have been forwarded don't work, pull the carb and disassemble it. They are not rocket science. Blow out all the passageways, especially those under the adjustable jets. steve

Im not trying to say anything negative about your saw or any other brand i just wanted to say i have four stihl chainsaws and a polesaw the oldest is about about 18 years old i haven't had any problems with them for about ten years and i use regular gas with the stihl oil mixture.i just wanted to say im very happy with them there definitely a great product

Brand doesn't matter in the saws above Walmart grade. I have about every brand you can name and they ALL need maintenance, they all fail eventually and they all have quirks. Echo, like most Japanese products, are well engineered and well built machines.

second that, I had one do the same thing. I pulled the muffler off and the 3 exhaust ports were just about blocked off.
