re round barns

There are 4 round barns in my county here in Central Ohio. They are unique, and difficult to maintain,,all of them here have a silo in the center,

I've got an old book someplace here that outlines all the reasons a round barn is best. I've also got a Jamesway book that outlines all the reasons a round barn is wasted space! Cool to look at, but like so many other things, in practical use they theory may not pan out.

Another round barn at Greensburg, Ind approximately 2mi N of the auto plant and inter state 74 W of town. Known as Pleak barn. It is used as an education and event center. It was built by great uncle in 1914. I will try to post a pictures. LVP

Many years ago I looked at a small farm in Southern Minnesota with the possibility of buying it. It had a round barn on it that I really loved but the house was in such bad shape I passed on the opportunity. I haven't been back to that area for nearly 50 years but I can still picture the barn in my mind's eye.

There is one near Dillsboro, IN that has been used as a Mack truck garage since the late 60s.

Uncle Tony was a barn builder in the area. He said one
downfall of a round barn was when they had barn dances they
couldnt dance a square dance!

Here are a few pictures of the Greensburg Indiana Round Barn. I was there couple years ago on a tractor ride from the Greensburg power of the past show

There is a large round barn a couple of miles east of New Hampshire, Ohio. It was completely rebuilt some years ago. In use yet. Silo in center that If I remember correctly they said was 20' in diameter, the manger to feed cows was first thing around base of the silo. Then the stantions for the dairy cows and had an overgead manure carrier in there. then like a drive just outside of where the cows were kept. Then the horse stalles were outside of that and that was on the ground floor. The second floor was like a bank barn that you could drive the tractor and wagon up to.. At one time it was used as a certified seed prossing plant. It can be seen if correct direction to miss treas and other buildings for a mile. Been several years since I was in it. Was a stop on local club tractor drive. And our tractor drives are one day and about 35-40 mile and club members only. It is about 15 mile from where I was raised.
