Ok guys my tractor is all new on charging system so should be working- and it has been working great till today! New 12v generator and regulator- went to rake hay and noticed it wasnt charging...so...with test light there was no volts on A terminal or regulator terminal so I polarized the batt terminal to A terminal- now I have juice on A terminal on genny and regulator...still not charging at battery. WHy do I have all this damn trouble and its so simple- but not to me! Please advise! Thanks! BJM

Hey banjoman, Pretty sure that Oliver has a Class A charging system, so make sure BOTH the Generator and the Voltage Regulator have good solid grounds, and you have Polarized, so then copy n paste my Charging Troubleshooting procedure which has the VR by pass test (basically dead ground the gennys FLD post to see if she charges then) to see if non charging is a VR or a Genny problem and the Motor Test for checking the Generator.

Working through my procedure can help find the problem, try easy simple things first like insuring good VR and Genny grounds and check connections then when running temporarily ground out the Gennys FLD post to see if that makes her charge???

Even if the genny and VR are fine the wiring and ammeter needs to be good so charge gets to the battery.

Iffffffffff its charging (even if ammeter isnt working) at fast RPM battery voltage should rise to at least 13 to 14 or so subject to RPM Genny and Battery condition IS IT RISING ??????? or staying around 12 or so ?????

After checking connections and grounds and polarizing and seeing if battery voltage is rising, TRY MY TROUBLESHOOTING PROCEDURE

Do your trouble shooting first.

But I suspect it will be the regulator.

If it's out of warranty, try filing the contacts before replacing it.

That's the problem with aftermarket regulators, they are cheaply built and poorly matched to the generator.

sorry it took so long to get back:) busy times... When I started the tractor it charges to 15amps if I rev it up to about 1200rpm....then it charges if I keep the speed up. Thanks.
