Painted top of cab white

I removed top of cab with intentions of using insulation with aluminum foil to stop radiant heat gain.

After seeing how the control levers, blower fan and electric wires run. I bought cheap 3/8>
Inch carpet pad to act as both insulation and dampen sound. And 2 rattle cans of gloss white.

No one will see the white.

Plan to put the top on tomorrow.
Anything has to be better than nothing on a hot sunny day.
The cab is a hot green house even on a cool day.

The cab on my old Ford tractor was white

And so was the roof on my 966 IH also white

So did the folks at New Holland and CaseIh miss this?? The new NH tractor is all a darker blue, and the CaseIH tractor is a darker red.
The folks in Europe that build Fendt make their tractors roof tops white

Maybe George is on to something here !!

Bruce,
I didn't know so many tractor top were white. Guess I never paid attention.
Hopefully this will help keep me cooler on hot sunny days.

My John Deere 7700 tractor never cooled that well from new. I pulled all the windows out and had a auto tint shop tint the glass. Cooled a lot better after that.

There is a big time excavating contractor here that paints the roof white on every piece of equipment they own. Probably over 150 units now. Mostly because it helps keep the black cabs cooler but it's also clear who's equipment is out there working. I've been told it makes a huge difference, especially when the ac starts to struggle.

I can tell you that tinting the windows will make an enormous difference. The company I work for has all brown equipment. 100% working AC will barely keep up in 95 degree weather. Throw on 5% tint on everything but the windshield and it's night and day difference. Now, if you're working at night however the tint reflects any interior light terribly. Something to think about.

Having water shutoffs for the heater hoses will make more difference. I was down to FL one summer and shut off the heater lines and gained enough it was cold in the cab compared to before I shut them off. Not circulating the heated water/coolant through the heater while trying to cool it and the cab is a huge difference.

90 degrees here coughing up dust . I know 90 is probably almost cool compared to tera haute

I hope that cab modification helps a lot

That's a lot of dust to be inhaling.
Actually, this spring we have been cooler than normal.
The Kubota is my AC lawn mower. Just something I had on my bucket list.
Hope someday you can get a cab. You need one more than I.

I have a brown Gold van and it got very hot in the summer, both ac's wouldn't keep it cool. I painted the roof with Henry's Tropicool it's like a thin white silicon paint. It will now get cold in the van. It's been on for two years now no problems, also helps with sound deadening.

Our school system painted most of the buss tops white. Our motorhome is as big as a school bus so I painted it with Hy-Tech Bus Kote #2150 Bus & Recreational Vehicle Coating. This is the same the school busses around here use. I got enough for only 4 coats. (they recommend at least 2 so I used all I bought) Before I painted it I parked it outside for a week waxing the sides. Wife recorded temperatures inside as well as National Weather Service temperatures at 2:00PM each day. Then I painted the top and let it dry or cure for a week. After painting, we recorded average of 15 degrees cooler inside.

If you could reinstall the roof to the structure with just a little air gap, like 1/2 to 1 inch, that would also help a great deal.

Assuming the orange roof is basically just a cosmetic top??

Bruce, the cab on my Case is white and it gets mighty hot when it is over 90 degrees out. Air quit working and no time to fix right now.
