Change of weather

Just got back in from getting all of the waterfurrows put in on the unplanted bean land and putting up more rain guages. Ground is so hard that it was making the 574 grunt in places running the trencher. We had a slack 2 tenths of rain the other day but it was short lived on the good it did. Made a start planting soybeans but had to quit on account of lack of moisture. Usually when I put up a rain guage it'll trigger a flood or drought. Sure were a bunch of big snakes on the move. Maybe something will be on the way.

Been very wet here. Got another 3/4 inch of rain over night into today. Parts of my garden is doing well including the weeds. Can't pull weed due to all the mud

What area are you in? So you plant in the ridges? The water furrows are for irrigation I would guess. Would you mind describing the irrigation process you use in more detail? TIA

I'm in eastern N.C. The only thing we irrigate is tobacco. A fair amount of this ground especially where I ripped and bedded is flood prone. I have no-tilled these places for awhile but it's gotten so hard the water dosent want to seep down when it does rain. We were waiting for some rain to plant so in the meantime went ahead and tore it up while we couldn't plant it. Maybe it'll rain sometime.

Was dry all spring here then rained about a week ago. Got probably about an inch. We are still a bit dry but not to bad. If we got another inch I would not complain.

I guess what I was trying to say is the ripping will give the roots somewhere to go down and seek moisture in a dry spell while being on a bed will help keep it from drowning in a wet spell.
