Spraying corn.

Spraying corn with my 400 tractor. We call him chipmunk cheeks, for obvious reasons. Chipmunk is my dedicated spraying, side dressing tractor. Anything that requires liquid for my Crop Production is handled by chipmunk. I have the 3 point sprayer boom shown, a side dressing bar, and a drop nozzle bar. The tanks are never removed as I have other trackers for other jobs. I use an electric pump setup that works quite well.

Steve, I am interested in what you use for electric power and/or how well your generator/alternator handle the electrical demand. I have a similar setup on a converted lawn and garden tractor with a 20 gallon tank for spraying around trees and had to mount a separate semi-truck battery, charged with a battery charger daily before spraying.

While I'm not Steve, I'm running the same pump (link below)

Gets used on a 250 gallon sprayer with a boomjet nozzle for spraying pastures and hay fields, I have no other crops. It'll put out enough to get me a 30ft spray width.

Also gets used to pump water from a 55 gallon barrel on a carry all to water newly planted trees.

Both tractors have been converted to alternators, so power is not an issue. Specs on the pump says it uses 17 amps.

Had it a few years, I'll rinse it out good when I'm done for the day and drain it and store inside for the winter.

I don't run it all that often, but so far so good.

Just use a common one wire Delco alternator. Using a common 700 amp 12volt automotive battery from Walmart. It can handle the poop all day long, maintaining 30 to 40 lb of pressure, intermittent. I turn it off on turns and turn it back on when I start back up the row. Just use a common 12 volt push pole switch that is mounted on the fender for easy access . I use an alligator clip to hook to the starter lug for power. The pump is hey Northern Flowmaster type pump, rated 5 and a half gallons per minute at 60 pounds pressure. This is the third year on the pump. I have used this type of a system for over 15 years. The spray boom has 17 8002 nozzles, running 30 lb of pressure at 5 miles per hour.I can also apply 60 gallons of liquid fertolizer per acre.2nd gear about half throttle,25psi.

Seems to. Last year I sprayed some stuff that required agitation. The pump seemed to handle the job well, or good enough. However, should the electric system fail I can always go back to the PTO pump I used before the electric came along. The electric gives more constant pressure than the PTO pump, because engine rpm doesn't effect it.

Yes it has a common one wire Delco alternator. I have several other old Farmall tractors that have been converted to 12 volt as well. My 12-volt systems have never failed. The first one, my super M, was converted 20 years ago and has never failed or given the slightest hint of any issue. It has been as reliable as the sun going down or coming up.
