I don't see the advantage really, a lot harder to pour, and 5 gallon pails or barrels are usually reused or recycled

Cardboard box and plastic bladder probably cost less the produce than the plastic pails. And square boxes will stack better on forklift pallets that pails. The manufacturer doesnt really care about if its easy for the consumer to use.

If the shut off valve doesn't leak, it would be easier and less mess than emptying it out of a 5 gallon bucket. Probably not as handy to reuse for something else, better be saving your used plastic buckets!!

I hate them. Got ATF in them for the shop once. There was at least 2 quarts trapped in the bag that wouldn't come out. Had to remove the bladder and cut a corner out, then try not to make a mess. I would bet most shops just toss them in the trash with the 2 quarts still 8n there.

This explains it,

The GoBox system provides efficient storage, inventory management and oil delivery to equipement. This comprehensive solution helps to alleviate and reduce many operational tasks and is designed to help improve speed and ease of use compared to pails and drums.
Features

89% less plastic landfill waste compared to 24 quart bottles
Carton is fully recyclable.
Leaves minimal residual oil behind and requires less handling than pails or drums

Place I used to work 30 years ago processed, packed and shipped all their milk in 20 Qt. "bag and boxes.

In the past year, I have bought both Walmart brand and Mobil-1 oil at Walmart in the bag and boxes.

And......my wifey gets her Cabernet in the "black boxes" as well.

I guess the system is both cheaper and more "environmentally friendly".

Most fast food restaurants will sell used five gallon plastic buckets with tight sealing lids. The only problem is getting rid of the dill pickle smell.

Ive noticed the newer pails the plastic spouts rots off in about 6 months whether you use em or not
