i know the 1971/72 4320 is a turbo404 and beefed up compared to a 1971/72 4020.
but why is a 1971/72 4020 priced way more then the same vintage 4320? at least in my area
which was made the most in 1971/72 ? 4020s or 4320s?
im just curious, i cant iminage a 4020 keeping up with a 4320on farm work,

so any guess on the price spread?

thanks for your time

I thought the same thing, but people are not buying it for heavy work, so they don't need the extra 30 horse,is one reason, and i think they always wanted a 4020, so now they are buying it! 3020 are high priced too!

We had a 4320 and it would do the same work as our 4020 just a gear faster . My 4020 dynoed 115 horsepower no turbo after I rebuilt it then the 4320 was worn out and the 4020 would do the same work as the 4320 only a gear faster .

I'm not sure this is always the case. But yes, a 71 or 72 4020 will sell at a premium to an earlier one. Equal condition, same year and features, I'm not sure which would bring more.

I own 3 4020s and a 4320. If I were shopping for another 20 series, I'd get another 4320.

Ive only seen and know of one 4320 in our area. It was a tractor about 2-3 years late getting to the market. A 4320 with wheat land options is in my fantasy wish list.

I don't know the answer to your value question but I started working for the local bto in 1973 and we set up a brand new 4430 with saddle tanks and a spray boom on a 21 ft. Kewanne disk to put down Treflen. The second day out in the field the 4430 dropped a valve. So we changed the tanks over to the 4320 and hooked that on the disk. The way the gearing was we were actually able to pull the disk a little faster with the 4320 even though it was about 10 hp. less.

Up untill a few years ago the 4320's always out sold a 4020. But the buyers of today are not doing heavy field work they are looking more for a chore tractor or a collector tractor. And the 4020 was one of the best Deere made so many want one just because it is a 4020. 4320's were supposed be a 116 hp but many came new with 125 and there was plenty more to be had. Friend had a narrow front 4320 that I chopped silage with one day and that tractor was putting out 175 on a dyno. At one time we refered to them as a poor mans 4430 but now they often bring more than 4430's. Rough 4320's do not sell well because there is no good sheet metal to be had if you want to fix one up. Another neighbor needed a fuel tank and paid lots of money and looked a long time. Tom

Ill take the 450 again. I Like the white grill and stripes. I had one for a short time and wish I would have kept it. Last of the great M lineage.

Okay this is Tractordata numbers so take with a grain of salt and this is counting on the fact that the serial numbers are consecutive from year to year. For the 4020 there were 10,791 built in 71 and 9,497 in 72. For the 4320 for 71 they show 11,031 and for 72...10,453.

For many many years I have seen the 4020 out sell the 4320 and I could never figure it out ?

For some reason the 4320 was never popular around here. Think Ive seen one in my life. The 930 Case tractors were everywhere.

The late 4020 and 3020 with oval muffler and side console. Will out sell any other tractor of that time period. Maybe the difference is the 12 volt system instead of that worthless 24 volt system.

Grandpa Tom had a late 3020. Grandpa Harry had a thousand series Oliver. Dad had a 06 series IH. The 20 series Deeres are the most over hyped over priced tractor ever made. Not one penny better than the Oliver or the IH.

Now I wait for......
