I have a chance to buy an oliver 1550 with a nice loader (westendorf WL40 ) runs and works real good except the clutch is near the end of
its life -- it has the hydro shift and it works good too -- real nice rubber all around -no cracks --- what is this worth and what does it
take to replace the clutch -- thanks in advance for Your thoughts --- Roy

Clutch is relatively easy, no splitting, lift engine out. Value? With the loader, probably plus or minus $5000.

thanks rrlund == this dude wants to sell it pretty bad so He can Buy a compact tractor -- He said He is willing to deal because of the bad clutch I do think 3500 would buy it -- Roy

Handy little tractor's. Easy to work on, like rrlund mentioned no splitting if the tractor to change the clutch.

That sounds like a good deal, better jump on it before somebody else does. I paid $2600 for mine without a loader and wore out tires all around, lots of oil leaks and other small problems.

Roy remember to pull the long PTO drive shaft first. Its pretty easy to remove most of the time. Gas or diesel?

I have 2 Oliver 1550 tractors I use a gas and a diesel,the diesel has a loader and it works pretty well, was on the tractor when I bought it.With the long spindles it wouldn't be my 1st choice for a general loader tractor,works OK to handle round bales.I'm planning on moving the loader over onto either the 1550 or 1600 utility models I have much shorter spindles.

This is a very good example of the situation of "Too old for a real farmer and too big for a hobby farmer". While there are of course thousands of exceptions to this, the reality is that the pool of potential buyers for that 1550 is far far smaller than the pool of buyers for the diesel compact.

$3,500 total: $1,500 for the loader; leaving $2,000 for the tractor as-is sounds about right or somewhat high depending on the tires and your area. If you have someone else replace the clutch, I would budget another $1,000 or more for that work.

If you can get it for $3K or less would be better, the market for for tractors like that is limited.
