SMV sign mounting????

So I have a bunch of old tractors and implements. Some of my land is 3 miles down the road. I have several SMV signs with the tapered piece of metal on the back of them. I would like to find some of the brackets that the signs just slide into so that I could move the SMV sign from one tractor or implement to the next. Anyone know were to buy those little brackets that are held on with two carriage head bolts?

I've bought them at tractor dealers, you may have to ask for them. I have not seen them on the showroom shelf, but behind the counter.

Runnings, Fleet Farm, TSC, and all the other farm supply stores should have them, I see them all the time.

A good Napa or other place you can get bearings and belts from should have a box out back, or can order them.

Shoup, and the other mail order farm supply places should have them.

Such as this.

I would not buy those brackets, often if you go over a bump, your smv sign will jump out, and you will loose it. Better idea is to weld some flat stock onto a piece of pipe, that is maybe 6 inches long. Drill some holes into the flat stock so you can bolt it onto tractor fenders, or other equipment. Make several of these, and fasten them one the equipment you need signs on. Then using a length of pipe anywhere from 12 inches or longer that will sleeve into your pipe bracket, bolt your smv sign to this pipe. Your pipe on the bracket needs to have two holes drilled through it, best to drill these holes before weld onto the flat stock. Run a bolt through the bottom hole, and put a nut on it. Place your sign which is now fastened on the pipe into the bracket, and drill through the top hole, and through the pipe with the sign attached. Once its done, slid a hair pin clip through the hole, and your sign wont fall off, or get pulled off by a branch without you knowing. You can also be creative and use a longer pipe on the sign with a couple of 90 degree bends one over, one up so the sign is out of your way for field operation, but in clear view to road traffic.
Signs dont cost all that much really, and I just bolt them right on to equipment permanently

Most hardware stores have circular HD magnets and we use those to hold our SMV signs on different equipment. makes it easy to remove and change location and is strong enough to hold on VERY well.

I got a piece of flat stock, bent it 90 degrees and cut a hole so I could use the seat bolt. This is on my 1946 John Deere B. I am doing something similar for my 1954 Ford NAA, using a different metal. The one on the B is quite firm and works great.

I agree with Bruce, they dont cost that much. Just permanently mount one on each piece of equipment. That way you wont forget to move them.

Any farm implement dealer,or 'farm' store, some NAPA,hardware stores in rural areas.I buy em from Shoupe Manufactureing.

That is better than around here . SMV signs are often on the back of equipment that exceeds 25mph and should have a license plate .
Worse yet are the fools that place a SMV sign on their gate posts or mailbox. Gives a misleading view of what is in front during a blizzard.

I've been lucky, have those mounts on a few pieces of equipment and never lost one yet.

I am a fan of permanent mount where possible.

Bingo. I hate seeing a 0 MPH mail box when driving at night....

Your location of sign on back of tractor seat or back of tractor cab,up high enough to be seen over implement is ideal ,and better than on rear of a manure spreader.
