460 Utility Hydraulic pump

Looking for help to answer questions about the hydraulic pump in a 460 utility tractor. This pump has a "piggy-back" pump attached to the main hydraulic pump.
Is there a way to test the "piggy-back" to be sure that the problem is only related to the main pump itself?
New and rebuilt pumps are available for this part number 70935C91 but I am finding no information about the "piggy-back" pump that is attached to the pump itself.
Is there a simple way to test the pump?
It certainly made the grinding noise when it quit working. Some very small metal shavings trapped in the filter. Oil was super clean with no 'milky' color present and no other debris in the filter.
Any help would be appreciated.

I believe that would be similar to 560, piggy back pump is for power steering. I believe the main pump supplies oil to the power steering pump so if you have metal in there has probably destroyed both pumps.

Main pump testing , with a 3000-more Psig. gauge use fittings and install in auxiliary port , pull lever and see what pressure it develops. If you have a flow rater you can check it that way(best way).
Piggyback pump is power steering only and has a separate relief. One other thing what does the oil look like if you run a hose into a pail? If foaming it is sucking air. What does the filter look like? If the
screen on the side of the filter is plugged the filter is way plugged. The screen is a bypass. Does it sound like it is going onto pressure? Piggy back pump you put a gauge into the port on the pump and turn
the steering until it goes on high pressure lock to lock. Caution those tractors have a rack the can break if you are not hearing go onto pressure. Note if the main pump fails the piggy back also doe as it is
driven off the main pump shaft. I have seen the gear that drives the pump split and pieces fall inside.

Thanks for your thoughts on this ....

After pulling the pump, the front drive gear looks good, tight, no wobble. Gears inside seem to be moving smoothly, no visible signs of gear issue. After pulling "piggy-back" pump, noticed a slight clicking noise in the main pump. All O rings and seals look good. After hearing the sound it made when the hydraulics went out I was assuming I would find some definite damage... However, I am assuming there could be internal damage not visible. Oil is clean no foaming or milky color. Guess my question now is.... should both the main pump and piggy - back be replaced?

Don't know about replacement. If you got everything cleaned up then stick it back in and see what works. Then you will know. Put the pump in first and then hand pump some oil through the suction port to get some oil in it before putting the filter on. May not be necessary if the pump is lubed but can't hurt.
