Does it matter which side of the switch I put the flasher on

If it's a thermal flasher it won't mater.

If electronic it needs to be after.

After is the common way to wire one.

The first tractor we had which had a flasher was the 1966 JD 2510. The flasher was tucked up in the fender. On the 2520 they moved the flasher to behind the dash area where the switches are. Both are after the switch. My 1965 4020 had no flasher.
