kcm.mn used this picture in his daily picture posts and a number of people asked what it was. I said for cutting irrigation trenches between grape vine but I was a bit unsure so contacted my friend in the area.

I was slightly wrong as it was used to cut irrigation trenches in the orange plantations near Mildura in Victoria, Australia. Due to restrictions on irrigation and years of drought, the orange plantations have nearly all died off and are being grubbed up so items like this are going for scrap.

Tractor on the front is a Fordson Major and I took the picture in October 2017.

Nice I want to try it out in Ohio clay
Where to the cobblestones come out ?
How fast is it ?

Do you go about as deep as rear wheels on tractor or deeper ?

Hows it do on hills ?

Thanks, When first posted, I figured it was a trencher of some kind. Compared to the ones made in the US, this one looks awfully spindly, it looks like a rock or some gravelly clay would tear it apart!!

Do you grow oranges in Ohio? ;0) Soil where it worked is mainly silt from the Murray River flood plains of the past.

Depth I would think, is set by the wheel on the rear. Forward speed would be very slow using the Howard Reduction gearbox. My friend is an expert on growing crops in the area, he was into grapes with his own vineyard along with his wife.

I will ask the questions but it may be some weeks before he gets back to me.
