OT 1970 F600 Stiff Transmission

1970 F600 Transmission shifts very hard. It sat for many years. Has oil/grease in transmission hardened? If so, how can it be removed? Ideas? Thanks, kelly

You have access to the truck, the rest of us don't, anything anyone of us could tell you would be a GUESS.

Finding out is a s simple as pulling the drain plug.

Or take out the fill plug and stick your pinky in there and pull a sample! (Engine "OFF", of course, LOL!)

Might as well run it/drive it/warm it up, then put in fresh oil.

I'm betting that with fresh oil and putting some miles on it will go a long way to making it shift easier.

It seems hard to believe that it is so hard it will not drain out of the drain plug. Pull the drain plug and let it drain as much as possible over night. Then fill it with diesel fuel and drive a couple miles. Then drain and fill with fresh proper oil.

You might run some ATF for a short while to flush it out, then put new gear oil back in.
