OT Cummins Soot Again

Thanks for the replies. Most seem to assume my truck is a newer one. Actually it is a Dodge, not a Ram. It is a 2012. That is a pre-DEF, I think. I don't think it re-generates. Am I wrong?

No its pre garbage. What you have is a particulate filter get rid of that and put a straight exhaust on it. Muffler or not and you will get better mileage and longer engine life.

Ram brand started in 2010, so a 2009 and below are a Dodge Ram, 2010 and up is just Ram. Call it what you want though, it's the same stuff, they just decided to drop the "Dodge" name for marketing reasons.

There is DEF which is part of the diesel exhaust catalyst (SCR), and DPF. Both are exhaust emissions but do different things with different hardware and both are in the exhaust piping. Your truck has a DPF but not a SCR/DEF system.

I have the exact same truck but I was under the impression that if you took the particulate filter off you had to have the computer
reprogramed or that would cause damage to the engine
