Jim, since my post about my 300u is 3 or 4 pages back, I wanted to address your last response here. Yesterday evening I went out and played with the adjustment for a long time. I had seen in the parts diagram what you said about the left sector gear looking like not having a surface for the adjuster screw to push against, but I thought that was maybe just a poor picture. I did my adjusting with the front wheels jacked up off the ground. But when adjusting the left, with the right backed out, I could make the the left sector tight or loose. And when adjusting the right, with the left backed out, the steering would get hard and bind, but the right never tightened up like I would like. Better but not great. I ended up getting every thing as close as possible without any binding. Still a lot of looseness, but I am used to it. I do believe the box may have bearing issues.
I am more and more considering adding power steering, either factory or Jackson. Just want to justify the $$$ ! I am getting weaker(LOL) in my old age. I used to load manure when I was 8,9 yrs old with this tractor and it seemed easier to steer then, than it does now. I sold the loader 15 yrs ago and don't miss it, but it almost steers like it is still mounted(LOL). Gonna leave it be for now. Thanks for your thoughts and answers, Mark.
