Can I run this alternator without hooking up the idiot light? It's a used one and isn't charging, so I'm trying to figure out if I have to rebuilt it.

you do not need an idiot light just to see if its charging. not sure how your testing it.

Thanks Jim. Sounds like I have to hook one up to get it to charge. I wired the S to the hot stud and hoped it would work. The one that I have has the four prongs, PLFS. Thanks again.

Yes but don't run it like that... Just incase someone thinks it will be ok to wire it and run it with no light... YES I found out : (

Forget the "L" light terminal, if you don't want a light. "L" will exite and and operate a dummy light but the "F" terminal will too, just use a switched (IGN) 12V source . Either terminal will exite and one or both can be used.

Forgot to add, I think the "F" terminal is actually "I" or they are interchangeable depending on application. There are OEM applications of this alternator that ran either one of (L or F/I) and some apps used both. I believe the "L" terminal needs a bulb and/or resister where the other terminal does not.

Also the sense wire is optional, it does not need to sense voltage externally. GM very rarely used the sense terminal on the CS130.

I like the idiot light. I put one on the dash. It saved a lot of dead battery's If I see the light on it says hey you
idiot you left the ignition on.
