pool repair

I know this is off topic but I don't know where to ask this. I have to repair a leak on a swimming pool. It is a concrete pool with cement block sides. There has been a leak last year. I found a section 3 feet by 15 inches that was loose, this in the the side wall in the winter the water dropped to the bottom of this section. The part that came out was the plaster over the block. My question is what is the best material to use, thoroseal, morter mix, cement and sand mix or something better?

I've never heard of a concrete block walled pool, where do you live? You'll get lots of advice here, most of it likely good. Have you tried Googling? Something like SWIMMING POOL CONCRETE PARGING REPAIR or variations of that topic?

In almost all cases, the surface of concrete/cement that is intended to interface with a patch or repair should be etched with an appropriate acid based material. This removes some of the surface cement exposing the aggregate and sand to make an interlocking bond. It further removes any contamination from earth based organics and oils. I am not suggesting the product in the link, though it might be considered. Any looseness in the blocks will also cause failure. It is also desirable to determine if ground water is getting at the blocks from the earth side. Blocks are extremely porous and rain water is acid such that the new patch can be attacked from the back side. Jim

So how long will it be before other cement blocks become loose?? If mine I'd hire someone to spray entire pool with gunite.... If you even have gunite in your area. No problems after that. Nwingnut
