Dead batteries

I'm trying to get combine going to take out a live snow fence. Dome light was left on over winter and batteries are dead, dead, dead. Put charger on but it won't even show that it is charging. Maybe 2 amps. So will batteries never take a charge?

Hard to say. If they froze good chance they will never charge back up. I have a battery like that and it read 8.75 volts when I first got it and it never did take a charge. But we got cold this winter so good chance it froze

The batteries on my MF (2 BATTERIES)and IN MY DIESEL 4700 INTERN. (3 BATTERIES)died during the freeze last month, don't use truck very much anymore, might just let it set.

I have had a couple recover with a trickle charger/maintainer left on for a long time but depends on how bad they are.

Hook a good battery to your dead ones with jumper cables as you are charging them. Instructor in college mentioned this and have brought some back to life.

Unless they are older than dirt and plain worn out I have 80%+ success bringing them back to life.

-If the case has split it's junk.

-Completely thaw the battery out first, this can mean 2 or 3 days in the basement to get all the ice out of them.

-Hit them with a heavy charge for about 5 minutes to wake them up, I use a big booster charger to do this.

-Turn it down to a no more than 10 amp charge and give it a good day on the charger.

Sometimes what work for me is to hook a light up to the battery's on the negative side so power will go through them. You could just leave that dome light on and it will work. Just hooking up them dead sometimes will not accept the power from the charger very good.

Maybe it isn't charging. In recent years since Smart Chargers I haven't been able to charge a dead battery. You have to get it more than 50% charged before putting it on the charger. Otherwise the charger just shuts itself off and won't charge. I had to buy one of those little float chargers HF sells to charge the battery before hooking it up to the smart charger.

If you have an old charger or one that isnt automatic leave on 10 or 15 amp for 3 or 4 days Ive saved quite a few that way sometimes they wont take watch it to see if it gets hot

I have gotten a dead battery to take a charge by putting jumper cables on the dead one from a charged battery and then putting a trickle charger on them for awhile.Once the dead battery gets a little bit of charge put the trickle charger on it and it'll take several days but will sometimes bring the dead battery back up.

I've brought a few dead batteries back to life, but they were never a good as they were before they went dead. The didn't last too much longer either. If you need the combine to start reliably, I would replace the batteries.
