Sp got a distributor for it and have it all wired up. I have had it almost start or acts like it is going to start but now I have another problem. The starter has stopped working so now I need to find a starter for it. I know I can get one from this site but by the time I buy it and paid shipping it would be over $200. So I am looking around a bit the see if I can find one cheaper so til I have a starter any wok on it is on hold

Old,
I would take starter apart and see if it needs brushes, comutator cleaned. Most important, is the rotor rubbing on the stator. I would try fixing it.
Also pull start it.

Brushes are in fact bad. I don't have the tooling to replace the brushes since it takes a big soldering iron to do so. As for pull starting that is hard to do by your self. I've done it before by my self but that was 35 plus years ago and I am not as fast on my feet as I was back then. LOL

Ebay under.$20.
Brushes appear to bolt on to wire.
Can't see how anyone can solder it carbon brushes.
Ebay sells complete kit for $50.

Last starter I looked at rebuilding the brush wires where soldered on so I figured they where on this starter also. Plus my hands just don't work like they once did. I have a used starter on order plus taking this in to O'Reilly's and they have a place they take it to and have it rebuilt

Could if I had a hand crank but none of the hand cranks I have fit. Plus it has not been started in who knows how long and I am trying to get things dialed in.

Not really just looking for more option to where to find one. Most that I have found where $200 plus. O'Reilly's can get me one for $226 plus $40 core. JP tractors have a used one I ordered for $90. Plan to have this one rebuilt an then go from there. I know almost nothing about this Cub so not sure if I am throwing good money after bad. So far it has not shown any oil pressure but gauge could be bad and I have not removed the gauge to see if I get oil or not. Plus transmission shiftier need to be repaired and tires well there not very good

Does it have a belt pulley? If so, you could belt it up to another tractor with one and get the engine turning over and do any tuning on it....on the side away from the belt...!

There's one on eBay that's new & ready to go for $140 & free 4 day shipping out of Minnesota. Not too bad a deal, but dang those things are getting expensive. Last time I bought a starter, it was a re-man for an H through CaseIH. Only $69 after the $20 core exchange.

Yes pretty much every thing has gone way up. I can remember buying a Delco 10SI alternator for around $15 but then again that was 40 or so years ago. I was about floored when one place told me $250 plus shipping for a starter for this Cub

$250?! Ouch! Hopefully you can get the one from eBay. Here's the item number: 363359818270. Just enter it in the search box. I checked their website & it's the same price. There is a one year warranty & if it doesn't fit right or some other issue, there's two weeks to return it. Not a bad deal.

I have a used good as in tested good one on the way. Plus will have this one rebuilt. Used one is $90 which seem to be to much but now days most every thing is to much. Just look at gas prices. 6 months ago it was around $1.50 a gal now almost $3 a gal

I bet you have it singing a cub song soon! I wish I was there to help. Know how it is being by yourself with sometimes a two person task. Takes patience and thought to get things done by myself eventually.

Well once I have another starter for it I'll be doing more. But the weather for the next week is not very good for working on it either. I haven't done a compression check on it but it has enough that I cannot keep my thumb over a spark plug hole which is a lot better then it was when I first got it
