Old and 47 cub

I'm doing a swap with Grandpa love for a distributor instead of the Mag. He is sending me a distributor and in turn I send him the mag. Once the distributor gets here I'll get back to it but till then It is sitting there at TDC on #1 cylinder. Once it is running then I'll move on to the shiftier problem and what ever else I may find.

The gas tank is very bad as for a lot of junk in it. Been soaking it with vinegar but may have to do more since it is not getting much better.

Try phosphoric acid or muriatic acid. I like phosphoric. You know you can use points and condenser inside mag and hang an exterior coil.?

The mag has problems other then points. The main body is loose from the base mount and I prefer a distributor over a mag on most tractors. It is so loose it moves about 1/4-3/8 of and inch so that would throw the timing way off as in it both jumps up and down and also rotates

Phosphoric acid is in the paint dept (at least at my HD). Used to etch concrete. Stuff is nasty at full strength. Want to keep it off the skin.

Got the distributor today from Grandpa Love and have new points in it now. Need to get a coil tomorrow and ignition switch and then wire it up and then see if it will run

(quoted from post at 13:49:49 04/12/21) Where do you get phosphoric acid at?? I know Orscheln's has muriatic acid but not sure on th other type

Phosphoric acid is available at any restaurant or dairy supply. It is sold as limescale or milk stone remover.
