Case 1175 showed on radar not running sat outside 4 years tires and tin are Ok it has a manual trans.was this tractor dependable and what's a ball park figure on a running one?
Thanks

The 1175 is a very dependable and trouble free tractor. They were built with the 8 speed tranny only. Would love to have the one dad bought May of 1973 new. RB

i was just curious if these are a spin off of the old 1030 case. never had much to do with these white models. is it just a turbo added to the same 1030 engine? and say trans, is that basically the same also? so you say they are pretty bullet proof my neighbour had a 1030 and he seamed to have head problems, so just wondered if that would apply to this model also? dont see too many of these around. hope you dont mind plowman.

They are not related at all to the 1030 except that they have the same 451 cubic inch displacement. The engine has a totally different head design so the problems with the 30 series don't apply. With the 30 series and especially the 1030 shutting them down hot was the cause of cracked heads. If you let them cool for a few minutes before shutdown they didn't crack much. That was fixed with the direct injection and cross flow heads on the 70 series. The transmission is totally different as well as the 1170/75 have outboard plannetaries. The 7/8/9/1070 with the 8 speed transmission have more in common with the older 30 series. As far as reliability I can't think of anything that would be more reliable than an 1170 or 1175. Great high torque engines, good brakes and steering, and bulletproof transmission and rear end. They frequently run 150+ hp factory and can run more than that without over doing it. They are a bit slow on the road as I think road gear is only about 16 mph. They are getting old tho so check for water in the oil as the orings can go bad at the bottom of the sleeves.

The 1070 I had for awhile was in the dealers shop getting some warranty work done and sitting beside it was a brand new 1070 with the engine out of it. The dealer said the factory accidentally put a 1175 engine in this 1070. They could only get 85 horses out of it instead of the 97 horses a 1070 should have. A 1175 has a turbo and a 1070 does not so they were dealing with an engine built for a turbo that was lacking a turbo. They couldnt tell me what the difference was between the two engines that are basically the same in almost every way.

Totally different head design and direction injection rather than indirect injection. The pistons are different as well because of that. Most of the lower end parts will interchange but are a bit different. Case kept all the best of the 30 series design and made it better with direct injection. Makes for a good starting hard pulling and very reliable engine. Don't know if any better in a tractor.

I'm sorry, I think I misunderstood your question. If your asking the difference between the nonturbo 1070 and turboe'd 11/1270, I don't think there is any difference below the heads. But I've never gotten into one of those.

It's a bare back is this a + or - for value and would you say somewhere between $8 and 10k is what a good one is worth? Thanks for the info gentlemen.

no diff like you said jon,, timing settings are different between turbo and non turbo,, other than that nothing they built the 70 series engines for turbo's to be added

Bare back would hurt the value in many places. It would have to be real nice to be $10,000 here like that. But prices are going up a lot, a 1030 was sold on an online auction a week or so back for over $9,000 and it was just nice, not restored or anything.
