Square bale rack wagon gate mod

My square bale storage building requires the hay wagon to be backed up to it. As such, the rear wagon gate needs to swing 180 degrees out in order to get as close as possible to the building. Stock from the factory swing was perhaps 140 degrees leaving the wagon several feet away from the building. Several weeks ago I posted an ask in the Implement alley forum for ideas on how to remedy this but did not get much. This forum has a bit more traffic so i will post something I did.....for the few people this will apply to..... I stumbled across a small length of quarter inch 8 x 2 steel tubing. I cut a two inch slice off the tube, then cut that in half, leaving myself with two pieces of U-channel if you will. I punched four 9/16 holes in the channel, pinned it to the wagon hinge, thus extending the hinge point. Two of these extensions on each wagon and i am good to go. Picture attached in case I lost you 5 minutes ago. A close look and you will notice the gate will not pivot as pictured...I tacked a half inch bushing under the gate hinge tab to get clearance.

Yea, you made a double jointed hinge. So the new piece can pivot as you open the gate, and let the new hinge move over and out so the gate can fold back tight to the wagon.

Would not hold grain because you moved the gate back 2 inches, but works good for bales they wont mind the extra gap you create. :)
