Allis WD45 Hydraulic Issues

I used my WD45 Remote Hydraulics to pick up our grain drill and set it down to work on it for spring planting. The hydraulics worked as they should. I happened to change my Hydraulic oil on the WD45 as it was sitting there. I used the ISO68(20w) the WD45 manual called for. The Dipstick is reading the new hydraulic level at the Full mark. When I started the WD45 to move the tractor and drill it would not lift/extend the remote ram on the Drill. I can hear the pump but there is no pressure in the hose. The pins that hold the cylinder on the drill are not under pressure with the hydraulic hand lever in the down or up position.
When I drained the Hydraulic reservoir the fluid that drained out was red almost like ATF. Also, before the change the pump always made a bit of a chatter sound when running the remote ram to extend. Now it is whisper quiet. The two rams for the lower link have always been capped off and no hoses since I bought the tractor a year ago.

The pump makes no noise at all when its working right. You say the lift cylinders are disconnected and plugged. Is the draft control linkage intact, missing, or just left to dangle, to where it could be in a position to unload the pump? Are the controls on the outside of the pump correctly set to perform the function you want? Oil that is almost red like ATF sounds like someone put Hy-Tran in it sometime before you got it. That would have no bearing on this situation.

Not knowing anything about an Allis hydraulic I could only guess at possible problems though I would recheck My oil levle as the level may have dropped when the tractor was started. Especially if there was more oil drained than refilled with.

I Reset the D screw by screwing it all the way in then back out. I checked the Dip stick level and it was still in the full range but might have been a touch lower than last night. I started the WD45 and tried the remote hydraulics. The drill lifted slowly. Then the next time it lifted at half speed. Then normal speed. I do notice the Chatter in the pump when it is lifting the drill again. What might that be? I thought maybe wear on the lobes or pistons in the pump and when trying to pressurizer the lobes are smacking the pistons instead of the pistons ridding nice on the lobes??

I appreciate the responses to my initial post!

You probably dont want to hear this, but you should remove the pump and overhaul it. Not knowing the sound its making, you are correct that it could be the cam striking the cam follower. This would be due to a broken piston spring, not holding the follower against the cam. Although the pump seems to be working well, this is a condition that can cause the pump to fail down the road, or tomorrow. This pump controls itself through a series of orifices and spool valves. If the wrong orifice becomes plugged, the pump cant unload and dangerously high pressure will result. This can happen if that spring continues to break up and circulate pieces through the system. On the bright side, it could continue to function as it is right now for the rest of our lives, but consider this: if our guess is correct, the pump is only running at 3/4 capacity right now, because one piston is not making a full stroke. So there is more hydraulic speed to be had for the cost of a handful of reasonably priced parts and one afternoon.

If it isnt broke do not fix it. Now that the air is working out use it to seed with. If any problems after planting then remove and repair. really just how many acres are you planting?

I am struggling to find replacement parts (springs) for the Hydraulic Pump. Any idea on where to Look. Steiner and YT did not have any.

I expect those springs are a dealer item. Try Sandy Lake Implement Company. They were originally an AC dealer and still do a lot with the older ACs.
