Oh dear, can't believe I even looked at it. But for $250 I think I will buy it. Comes with the tiller. Motor is stuck, according to seller, he was tilling, parked it and a month later it wouldn't turn over. That was a year ago. Harbor freight motor??

Since it's black, check if it's a demonstrator. That would be awesome. Of course then you would have to keep the original motor.

A 446 would have had an Onan engine as original. Let Jon explain his trials and tribulations with one of those.

A motor won't just stick in a months time. Check if the starter is bound up. I found that was the problem on a 16 onan in a sears I bought. Or maybe he is not telling the whole story.

Check the oil level. Make sure gas didnt over run the carb and fill the cylinder and crank case and hydro lock. Easy fix maybe if it did.

well I would buy it,in a heartbeat. but, I love the hydraulic machines(CASE) I have four and have had several others. I agree, no piston lock up in that short time. Take the plugs out and try to roll it over. They didnt have an electric clutch,so thats not it.

Check close, the hood and fenders would be black and the grill desert sunset and the rest power red. I'm not sure on the mowers, but the demonstrator tractors had brass serial tags.

How is the transmission driven on them? Belt or shaft or does it use a direct drive hydraulic pump on the engine and hoses to the trans?

I ask because I have a wonderful little 2 cylinder diesel I'm looking for a home for.

The Case Compacts are Hyd drive,, not hydrostatic,, rear of the engine is a hyd pump,, transmission has Lo and High ranges,, a hyd control valve controls speed in each range as well as braking,, the tiller is driven from the same hyd system, only snow blowers and mower decks are belt driven,, there was a also hyd driven snow blowers and mower decks in later years available,, there was many Case built attachments that are also hyd powered,, Jon no way thats a Demonstrator, look at the rear fender and foot board style,, late model built early 80's, even in the sad shape its in the hyd pto valve alone is worth asking price, then you have sleeve hitch and the tiller,,

I have a fleet of them,, we sold lots of them new as well, great tractors,, these are head and shoulders above what is commonly called a garden tractor,,,,

a couple of what I have,,

Those Case garden tractors are collectable and still bring decent money around here. I would buy it and investigate why it wont turn over, is the engine actually seized or maybe a starter. bad cable end ,key switch or safety switch etc. Get her running and till your garden in style.

those tractors had a nearly iron strong reputation. The engine if it started going to heck would not last long but the rest of the tractor was awesome. Father in law had the whole series. 220 up to 448. Seems like he had attatchments for nearly all the big ones. Sold the whole herd for one big money. The collection now sits on a shelf so high up the wall they cant even be dusted.
