JD 5203 3 pt control hard to operate

Have a friend with one he says the control handle is getting harder and harder to move any suggestions?

I have a 5105 that had the same problem from the time it was new. It has allen set screw adjustment that increases or increases friction. It is located on the rear of the 3 point lever. The draft control lever is now doing the same.

If in a high humidity climate or sets outside a lot it is probably rusting the friction parts some causing the stiffness. Some oil or a lossening of the screws is needed.

Also check lever pivot shaft for corrosion/drag. The main friction disc on mine is actually a metal cam looking thing with a spring tensioned set screw(3/16 ) head to adjust drag.
