I know this isn't a tractor but I also know there are a lot of knowledgeable folks here. My buddy is looking at buying a Link Belt 290 excavator. it is a 2008 with 8900 hours on it. It has an Izusu engine. When I went with him to look at it the batteries were discharged because some one had left the key on. With a jump it fired right up. On the instrument panel there was a message saying electrical problem. There wasn't a code displayed just the message. It has a 24 volt system. While running the alternator was charging 29.5 volts. He ran it for over an hour and it operated perfectly. I am wondering if the the electrical problem is the alternator is putting out too high of a voltage. I have never worked on a 24 volt system before. After it was shut off for around 5 minutes the battery voltage was 26.3 volts and the machine started right up again. I didn't check battery voltage before initially boosting it. I appreciate any help.
Also a dealer told him it would cost a minimum of $800 for someone to come check it out, about a 60 mile round trip.
