Category Tractor Power Lift arm pin diameter
1 20-45 HP 7/8 in (22 mm)
2 40-100 HP 1 1/8 in (29 mm)
3 80-225 HP 1 7/16 in (37 mm)
4 More than 180 HP 2 in (51 mm)

That ball doesn't seem to be for any std. 3PH

In the picture, the caliper appears to be laid down and out of square in the bore so I was guessing based on those things the reading is smaller than the actual bore size. If that is a square, centered, true reading; I don't disagree that my guess is wrong, they don't shrink. In that case it may be a worn 7/8 ball from a Cat 1 lift arm. Or it may not have a thing to do with a 3 point hitch.

could that be part of an old trailer hitch ball? i have a few old ones that came apart like that 1 7/8 i think

(quoted from post at 19:33:41 03/25/21) Apparently I was measuring the top link pin instead of the pin that goes through the ball.

3/4" diameter top link pin is for Cat 1. Cat 2 top link is 1" diameter.

Where/what is this ball from, or is it something you found?

I didn't go out to the shop and mike the inserts for a comparison to what you are showing, but the Ford 3910 is setup with Cat II lift arms but has removable inserts like that whereby you can insert a Cat i or II socket to fit your implement.
