Simplicity 6216 variator issues

I cannot get the variator pully to disengage when I depress the clutch/brake. It does come off just a little, about a 1/4" . What am I missing? I can't seem to figure out or find in the manual what is keeping from moving correctly. Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks.

I know nothing about your Simplicity tractor, but since no one else has replied I'll toss this out there...

I AM familiar with the variator drive John Deeres and if OEM belts or EXACT generic equivalents aren't used it can be impossible to get everything set up correctly as to speed range and "clutch" action.

Do you know the "history" of your belts?

I don't know anything about a Simplicity but the variator on my old 110 John Deere needs a cleaning and light lubing about every
three years which consists of jacking the front end up, getting the belts off the variator and getting that center sliding sheave
to spin like a top. It's probably stuck. I have better luck parking mine in the shed with the brake locked, seems to relieve the
pressure on the variator.

If you type Simple tractors in your search box and 6216 variator problems you'll get enough to read your self to sleep.

You are spot on. After much hesitation I decided to tear it apart. To find that it simply froze up from years of neglect. It's in a real bad place so I understand why it got neglected. Thanks for the input.
