Farmall 450 steering problems

Hello! Have a farmall 450 with power steering Wheel has play front to back and sometimes wont steer at all the wheel will spin 360 over and
over until the wheels bearely turn than all of a sudden will start to turn in the direction the wheel is spinning...If I move it jars them to
start turning but it feels like the wheel is like a freewheel Im going to start at the linkage to see about the play but its an oddball
thing that its steers sometimes but not others any ideas??? thanks!!!
 
Have you checked your stop bolt,it had a narrow front right,there is 1 bolt thats got a longer head on it, it goes in the cast iron slot, to stop from spinning around, get some body to turn the wheel and you look up there with a flashlight!!!
 
I looked up with a light I thing the linkage is spinning right to the pump...If Im assuming correct the steering rod goes to the pump which in turn spins another rod to the front wishbone block to turn the wheels..(sound right?) This is my 1st 450..Im guessing there may be air in hydraulic lines because the lines were just done..does this sound logical?? am I on the right track? thanks1
 
The power flow makes a right hand turn DOWN in the wishbone gear box,but does the shaft turn to the wishbone, if it does then the problem is underneath!
 
If the shaft going forward to the gearbox in front is not turning when the wheel is turned, the torque generator is the problem. It has the hoses going to it, and shaft in from wheel shaft out to the front gear box. It is reparable. If the hydraulic system is low on fluid it could also do that. Jim
 
Mine stripped out right before going into the steering gear. Had to drill a hole through both pieces and put a 1/4 bolt through it. Hard place to get too.
 
I figured it out Thax!! steering universal was loose slipping on shaft into the pwr steering pump thanks everyone!
