Old fella here, 76, I need guidance on a Ford 5000 SOS. Ran great until a part time worker threw it in reverse yesterday and it lurched, now wont engage in any gear. Waiting on shop manual I ordered. I am utterly bereft about it being laid up, its the only loader machine I have. Am I in correct forum or is there another thsts more appropriate? Mahalo 🌺🤙🏼

Drop down to the Ford forum and repost. Theres a couple guys that are sharp on the SOS transmissions. Do you verify that the coupler is still
engaged? Its the lever by your right heel that allows the rear end to free-wheel from the transmission for towing.

Mahalo for your kind reply. I am so frustrated by this because the worker had no business driving the tractor, plus at 76 haha I need things to go well. Question: could that coupler you mentioned suddenly kick off based on what I said happened? Thank you again, appreciate your time and feedback. Tom

Did he accidentally hit the transmission disconnect lever? It's been a long time but if I remember right, it's down by your left foot. It's designed to be used when doing

Input shaft splines or torque limiter splines or hub broke. When they go you are left stranded.

What Shaun said. It would be due on your 5000. A fellow used to sell repaired shafts. He retired, but I have seen on here where others have done them. They machine the male into a hex shaft then replace the female by cutting it off and welding a socket onto the other side. You need to split it of course but if you have a friend with a machine shop you could be back in business in a week.

Will the tractor roll or is it locked up and wont roll
If it wont roll most likely the input shaft splines have stripped out
If it will roll the drive line coupler in the rear axle has probably broke
